Deprivational Amblyopia

Home
Deprivational Amblyopia is disrupted brain learning of vision as a result of blocking of clear images by cataract, corneal scar or eyelid-mass blocking clear light. It can be the most severe form of amblyopia; if an infant with cataracts is not treated before the age of 4 months, normal sight is not possible despite heroic efforts with surgery, contact lenses and patching. Deprivational Amblyopia is relatively rare only occuring in about 0.5% of children or less. It has a medical diagnostic code H53.01_.
